AmericanJournalofAppliedSciences8(3):267-270,2011ISSN1546-9239©2010SciencePublicationsTheEffectofRapidThermalAnnealingTowardsthePerformanceofScreen-PrintedSiSolarCellShahrulAnizan,CheowSiuLeong,KhairymazaLeeYusri,NowshadAmin,SaleemZaidiandKamaruzzamanSopianSolarEnergyResearchInstitute,UniversityKebangsaanMalaysia,Bangi,Selangor,43600,MalaysiaAbstract:Problemstatement:Solarcellsareusedtocapturethephotonswhichgeneratetheenergy.Howevertheefficiencyofthecellstoturntheamountofphotontoelectricityneedstobehighandsothecellsenhancementisneeded.Thisinvolvedthewholeprocessofthedevelopingofthecells,thusannealingprocessisoneoftheimportantstepsthatneedstobeoptimised.Approach:OnlySisolarcellswillbediscussedandtheprocessesinvolvedwouldbemetalcontactscreenprintingandmetalpasteco-firing.ThecontactswerefirstscreenprintedwithAlpastefortherearsideandAgpasteforthefrontsideofthecell.Cellsarethenfiredintheannealingfurnaceusingselectedtemperatureprofile.Fewsetsoftemperatureprofileswereusedineverycycle.Results:AftertheIVcharacteristicsweremeasuredsuchasVoc,Isc,Pmaxandfillfactor,itshowsthatwhenhigherannealingtemperatureoftheprofilewasused,alltheparameterwillincreaseaccordingly.However,profilewiththehighestannealingtemperaturewillburnthepasteasitwilldecreasethequalityofthecell.Thisisconsideredasoverheattothepaste.Conclusion:SobyoptimisingthethermaltreatmentoftheannealingprocessdoesimprovetheperformanceoftheSisolarcell.Keywords:Thermalannealing,thermaltreatment,solarcell,screenprinting,pasteco-firing,generateenergy,globalwarming,energytechnologies,siliconsubstrate,optimumfiringcycle,metallizationprocess,energyconsumptionINTRODUCTIONHowever,theoptimizationofthecellcontactsisalsoagoodoptionwithlessexperimentalprocedure.FrontAssolarenergyisoneofthewindowsastheandbackcontactmetallizationcanberealizedbyscreenalternatives,thetechnologyitselfiswidelydeveloping.printingofametalpaste.InindustrialproductiontheTogenerateenergyfromsolar,adevicecallsolarcellismostcommonlyap
