中英普通高校招生考试制度比较研究的中期报告Introduction:Thecollegeentranceexamination,orGaokao,isakeyfactorindeterminingastudent'seducationalandprofessionalfutureinChina.TheGaokaoisastandardizedtestadministeredonceayeartohighschoolseniors,andtheresultsoftheexamdeterminewhichuniversitiesandcollegesastudentmayattend.TheGaokaohasbeentheprimarymethodofuniversityadmissionsinChinasince1952,andrepresentsakeypieceofthelargereducationsystem.Incontrast,theUK'shighereducationadmissionsprocessismuchmorevariedandflexible.Universityadmissionstypicallyinvolvereviewingastudent'sacademictranscript,personalstatement,andreferencelettersinadditiontotestscores.Thesystemisoftenquitedifferentfromoneuniversitytoanother,witheachinstitutionestablishingitsowncriteriaforselection.ThepurposeofthisreportistocomparethecollegeentranceexaminationsysteminChinatotheuniversityadmissionsprocessintheUK.Methodology:Thisreportemployedaqualitativemethodology,drawingoninformationgatheredfromtheresearchliterature,governmentreportsandstatistics,andnewspaperarticles.Results:ThecollegeentranceexaminationsysteminChinaischaracterizedbyahigh-stakesnature,withstudentscompetingfiercelyforalimitednumberofuniversityplacements.Thetestitselfisoftenseenasthesoledeterminantofastudent'sfutureprospects,resultinginhighlevelsofpressureandstressforstudentsandtheirfamilies.Incontrast,theUK'shighereducationadmissionsprocessismuchmorevariedandflexible,withinstitutionsestablishingtheirowncriteriaforselection.Admissionsdecisionsaretypicallybasedonacombinationofacademicperformance,personalstatement,andreferencelettersinadditiontotestscores.Whilebothsystemshavetheirstrengthsandweaknesses,thereisgrowinginterestinreformingtheGaokaotomakeitmoreequitableandlessstressfulforstudents.Suggestionsforreformincludeincreasingthenumberofavailableuniversityplacements,andreducingtheemphasisontestscoresinfavorofamoreholisticreviewprocess.Conclusion:Inconclusion,thisreporthascomparedthecollegeentranceexaminationsysteminChinatotheuniversityadmissionsprocessinth
