J.Cent.SouthUniv.Technol.(2011)18:711−717DOI:10.1007/s11771−011−0752−0DevelopmentofanalysismodelforgeometricerrorinturningprocessesLEEMun-jae,LEEChoon-manDepartmentofMechanicalDesignandManufacturingEngineering,ChangwonNationalUniversity,Changwon641-773,Korea©CentralSouthUniversityPressandSpringer-VerlagBerlinHeidelberg2011Abstract:Afiniteelementmodelwasestablishedforanalyzingthegeometricerrorsinturningoperationsandatwo-stepanalyzingprocesswasproposed.Inthefirstanalyzingstep,thecuttingforceandthecuttingheatforthecuttingconditionswereobtainedusingtheAdvantEdge.Also,thedeformationofaworkpiecewasestimatedinthesecondstepusingtheANSYS.Thedeformationwasanalyzedfora150mm-longworkpieceatthreedifferentmeasuringpoints,suchas10,70and130mmfromareferencepoint,andtheamountsofthedeformationwerecomparedthroughexperiments.Intheresultsofthecomparisonandanalysis,thevaluesobtainedfromthesecomparisonandanalysisrepresentsimilartendencies.Also,itisverifiedthattheirgeometricerrorsincreasewiththeincreaseintemperature.Inaddition,regardingthefactorsthataffectthedeformationofaworkpiece,itcanbeseenthatthegeometricerrorinthelatheisabout15%,theerrorcausedbythecuttingforceisabout10%,andthedeformationcausedbytheheatisabout75%.Keywords:geometricerror;machiningaccuracy;finiteelementanalysis;turning;cuttingforce,cuttingtemperatureandthetoolwearinggeneratedduringacuttingprocess1Introduction[1−6].Recently,lotsofstudiesontheestimationofthetemperaturedistribution,cuttingforceandresidualstressMachiningerrorsthatdegradethequalityofturninginworkpiecesandtoolscausedbytheplasticworkpiecesarelargelyrelatedtogeometricerrorsindeformationandfrictionalheatduringacuttingprocessmachiningtools,thermaldeformationerrors,andhavealsobeenconductedthroughafiniteelementdeformationerrorsintoolscausedbycuttingforce.Inmethod[7−17].general,themachiningerrorscanbeconsideredbydividingthemintodimensionerrors,geometricerrors,Table1Variablesaffectingmachinabilityandsurfaceroughness.Inparticular,thes
