选修8Units3-5易混词语辨析1.callup,callfor,callin,callon,callat,calloffcallup(1)打电话=ringup，(2)（使…）回忆起、想起;callfor需要,要求，号召;callin召集，邀请，请来(某种专业人才)；callon拜访（人）；callat拜访（某地）；calloff取消。例：Forgivemesoearlytocallupyouplease.请原谅我这么早给你打电话。Shecanstillcallupscenesofchildhood.她仍能想起儿时的情景。Thesituationcallsforpromptaction.形势所迫，必须立即采取行动。Heisill;youshouldcallinthedoctorrightaway.他病了，你应该立即请大夫来。I'mgoingtocallononeofmyformerclassmates.我要去看望我的一位老同学。Ishallcallathishometomorrow.我明天要到他家里拜访Thepresident'svisitwascalledoff.总裁的这次访问取消了。2.product,production两个词都只作名词，product是指产品，工农业生产的物品，production是生产制作,是过程,也指剧院，电视等演播的剧本，电影等。例：产品是轴承theproductisbearings；轴承的生产theproductionofbearings；农产品agriculturalproducts。3.setout,setup,setoff,setabout,setaside,setdownsetout出发；动身，另：setouttodosth=setaboutdoingsth开始做某事;setup建立政权、组织、国家等;setoff使（地雷、炸弹）等爆炸,引爆；setaside留出,对…不予以考虑；setdown=putdown记下,写下。例：TheysetoutforBeijingyesterday．他们昨天动身去北京。Shesetouttobreaktheworldlandspeedrecord．=Shesetaboutbreakingtheworldlandspeedrecord．她决心打破陆上速度的世界纪录。Thegovernmenthassetupaworkingpartytolookintotheproblemofdrugabuse．政府已成立工作组调查毒品泛滥问题。Dobecarefulwiththosefireworks;theslightestsparkcouldsetthemoff．要格外小心这些烟火，稍有火星就会引起爆炸。Iwillsetdownthestoryasitwastoldtome.我要把这听来的故事原原本本地记下来。4.seize,grasp,catch三个词都有“捉、抓”之意，但词义上各有所侧重。(1)grasp=takeholdofsomething抓住。例：Grasptheropewithbothhands.用手抓住绳子。(2)seize=takebyforce,ortakeinastrongway突然用力抓住不使逃脱，攫取。例：Thepoliceseizedthecriminal.把嫌疑犯押起来(3)catch常有以下几种释义：getsomethingbyhand接住；takearideonsomething赶上；contractanillness染上。例：Icancatchtheball.我能接住这球。Ihavetocatchtheplane.我必须去赶飞机。IthinkImaycatchacold.我想我有可能感冒了。5.freezing,frozen两者都可作形容词，都有“冰冻的;结冰的;极冷的”之意。但词义有区别：(1)freezing是冻别人的。例：afreezingweather,寒冷的（冻别人的）天气It'sfreezingoutside!外面冷极了！(2)frozen,被冻的。例:afrozenman,一个被冻僵的人Iamabsolutelyfrozen.我完全冻僵了。另外，freezing也可作名词，意为“冰点;凝固点”；frozen是freeze的过去分词。例：Tonightthetemperaturewillfallto3degreesbelowfreezing.今夜的温度将降至冰点下3度.Thelakewasfrozenoveruntillatespring.那湖全让冰封住了，到晚春才解冻。6.bear
