Interlanguagevs.PidginsandCreolesThelanguageproducedbylearnerscanbeconsideredakindoflanguagevarietyinitsownright.Researchersusetheterminterlanguagetodescribethevarietyusedbystudentsofalanguageastheyattempttocommunicatebutcontinuetomakeanumberofsystematicerrors.Aspointedoutearlier,interlanguagecontainsmanyerrorssimilartothosemadebychildrenacquiringtheirfirstlanguage.Forinstance,learnersofEnglisheitherasafirstorasasecondlanguageoftenshowatendencytosimplifythelanguagebNleavingoutinflectionalmorphemes,relationalverbs(e.g..tobe).andfunctionwordssuchasarticlesandprepositions.Asaresult.theirspeechmaysoundtelegraphic,orlackingincase,gender.tenseandnumber.Considerthefollowingexamples:Hecomeeveryday.Tomathome.Sockred.Mamaisn’tboy,heagirl.Itisalsointerestingtocompareaninterlanguagetotwoothertypesoflanguagevarieties,pidginsandcreoles.Bothpidginsandcreolesarelanguagevarietiesthatdevelopoutofcontactbetweenspeakersoftwodistinctlanguages.Thereareimportantdifferences.however,betweenthetwoterms.Apidginisamixtureoftwolanguagesusedbetweenpeoplewhomustcommunicate,butdonotspeakeachother’slanguage.Usually,apidgindevelopsbetweentwogroupswhohaveregularcontactthroughtradeorsomeothermeans.Apidginisasimplifiedformoflanguagewithoutallthecomplexityandsophisticationofgrammarandvocabularyofanytruelanguage.Acreole,ontheotherhand,isapidginthathasdevelopedintothenativelanguageofacommunity.Asanativelanguage,acreoleisusedforallpurposes(notsimplytradeorcommunicationwithanothergroup)anditsstructureandvocabularyaregreatlyenlarged.Thoughcreolesareoftenlowstatuslanguagesinsociologicalterms,inlinguistictermstheyarefullyequaltoanyotherlanguagevariety.Whatinterestsresearchersisthefactthatinterlanguagesoftenresemblepidgins.Forexample,theyareusuallytelegraphicinnature,theyoftenrelyonalimitedvocabularyandtheyoftenlacksuchgrammaticalfeaturesascase,gender,tenseandnumber.AuthorsofpopularfictionorcomicsoftenattempttocapturethislikeMehungry--yougivefoodasamarkofsimplifiedorpidginEnglish.Anotherexamplewould
