Myreadingreportabout"Emma"Author:徐攀攀Adviser:冯雷EmmaisthelastworkbyJaneAusten.Itisanovelabouttheperilsofmisconstruedromance.ThenovelwasfirstpublishedinDecember1815.Asinherothernovels,AustenexplorestheconcernsanddifficultiesofgenteelwomenlivinginGeorgian-RegencyEngland;shealsocreatesalivelycomedyofmanners'amonghercharacters.Intheveryfirstsentencesheintroducesthetitlecharacteras"EmmaWoodhouse,handsome,clever,andrich."Emma,however,isalsoratherspoiled;shegreatlyoverestimatesherownmatchmakingabilities;andsheisblindtothedangersofmeddlinginotherpeople'slivesandisoftenmistakenaboutthemeaningsofothers'actions.ManycriticsthinkitisAusten’smostmaturework.JaneAusten(16December1775–18July1817)wasanEnglishnovelistwhoseworksofromanticfiction,setamongthelandedgentry,earnedheraplaceasoneofthemostwidelyreadwritersinEnglishliterature,herrealismandbitingsocialcommentarycementingherhistoricalimportanceamongscholarsandcritics.From1811to1816,withthereleaseofSenseandSensibility(1811),PrideandPrejudice(1813),MansfieldPark(1814)andEmma(1816),sheachievedsuccessasapublishedwriter.Shewrotetwoadditionalnovels,NorthangerAbbeyandPersuasion,bothpublishedposthumouslyin1818,andbeganathird,whichwaseventuallytitledSanditon,butdiedbeforecompletingit.CharacterAnalysis:First,I'llanalyzethemostimportantroleofthisbook——theheroine,EmmaWoodhouse.EmmaWoodhouse,theprotagonistofthestory,isabeautiful,high-spirited,intelligent,and'slightly'spoiledyoungwomanoftheageoftwenty.Hermotherdiedwhenshewasveryyoung,andshehasbeenmistressofthehouseeversince,certainlysinceheroldersistergotmarried.Althoughintelligent,shelacksthenecessarydisciplinetopracticeorstudyanythingindepth.Sheisportrayedasverycompassionatetothepoor,butatthesametimehasastrongsenseofclass.Heraffectionforandpatiencetowardsherhypochondriacfatherarealsonoteworthy.Whilesheisinmanywaysmatureforherage,Emmamakessomeseriousmistakes,mainlyduetoherconvictionthatsheisalwaysrightandherlackofrealworldexperience.Althoughshehasvowedshewillneverevermarry,shedelightsinm
