90,000CollegeStudentstoBuildTheirMoneyManagementSkillsduringBarclaysMoneySkillsWeekMorethan90,000studentsatFurtherEducationcollegeswillhavetheopportunitytobuildtheirfinancialknowledge,skillsandconfidenceduringBarclaysMoneySkills‘weeks’,whicharecommencingthisweek7th–11thMarchacrosstheUK.BarclaysandtheNationalSkillsAcademyforFinancialServicesareworkinginpartnershiptodeliverthelearningweekat150collegesandareseekingtostrengthenstudents’moneymanagementskillsthroughaninnovativeprogramofactivitiesandevents.Morethan400Barclays’employeeswillbevolunteeringtheirtimeandexpertisetohelpcollegeswiththeplanninganddeliveryofactivities.Thisinitiativeisdesignedtogivestudentsanawarenessofmoneymanagementissuesandprovidethemwiththetoolstheyneedtostayincontroloftheirbudget.Studentswillparticipateinentertainingandinformativemoneymanagementactivitiesbasedontopicssuchasfood,fashion,familyandindependentliving.RecentresearchcommissionedbyBarclayshashighlightedthatyoungadultsfacesignificantchallengeswhenmanagingtheirmoney,atatimewhentheyarelikelytobeenteringfinancialindependenceandneedingtostretchtheirconstrainedincomestomeettheirdaytodayneeds.Morethanathird(36percent)runoutofmoneyregularly,withafurther27percentofunemployedyoungpeoplesayingtheyarealwaysrunningoutofmoney.MichelleSmith,HeadofConsumerandCommunityAffairsatBarclayssaid:“Weknowfromourresearchthatyoungpeoplefaceaparticularlychallengingsetofcircumstances,andneedallthehelptheycangettomanagetheirmoneyeffectively.Bysupportingyoungpeopletobuildtheirfinancialskillsandconfidenceweareempoweringthemtoreachtheirgoals.”SylviaPerrins,CEOattheSkillsAcademysaid:“Risingcosts,lackoffundsandthecontinuedinstabilityinthejobmarketservesasapoignantreminderthatthefinancialdecisionsstudentsmakeareofutmostimportance.Manyyoungpeoplearetakingcareoftheirfinancesforthefirsttime-wehopethatthroughourfunactivitiesandlearningsessions,studentswillgainabetterunderstandingofhowtobudget,saveandmanagedebtsandbills.Thiswillguidethemwhenmakingfinancialdecisionswhicha
