JournalofDynamicArticleLinksC<MaterialsChemistryCitethis:J.Mater.Chem.,2012,22,13585www.rsc.org/materialsPAPEROne-potsynthesisofthree-dimensionalplatinumnanochainnetworksasstableandactiveelectrocatalystsforoxygenreductionreactions†JiangfengXu,GengtaoFu,YawenTang,YimingZhou,YuChen*andTianhongLuReceived31stMarch2012,Accepted14thMay2012DOI:10.1039/c2jm32012fThree-dimensionalplatinumnanochainnetwork(Pt-3NCNW)nanostructuresaresynthesizedthroughathermaldecompositionmethodusingplatinum(IV)-complexesasreactionprecursorsintheabsenceofsurfactantsandtemplates.Thesize,morphologyandsurfacecompositionofPt-3NCNWsareinvestigatedbyscanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM),transmissionelectronmicroscopy(TEM),X-raydiffraction(XRD)andX-rayphotoelectronspectroscopy(XPS).Thesespectralstudiesconfirmtheas-paperedproductsarethree-dimensionallyinterconnectednetworknanostructureswithprimaryPtnanochainsasbuildingblocks,andthePtnanochainsgrowfromtheprimarysphericPtnanoparticlesviaorientedattachment.ComparedtothecommercialPtblackcatalyst,thePt-3NCNWnanostructuresexhibitsuperiorelectrocatalyticactivityandstabilitytowardsoxygenreductionreactions,whichisascribedtotheiruniquepropertiessuchasthefewsurfacedefectsitesandthelowhydroxylsurfacecoverageonone-dimensionalPtnanochains,aswellasfastO2diffusioninthree-dimensionalstructures.1.IntroductionAtpresent,Ptnanostructureswithvariousshapes,suchaszero-dimensional(0D)nanospheresandnanocubes,one-dimen-Protonexchangemembranefuelcells(PEMFCs)hadattractedsional(1D)nanowiresandnanotubes,two-dimensional(2D)moreandmoreattentionbecauseoftheirhighenergyconversionnanoshellsandmultipods,three-dimensional(3D)nanonet-efficiency,lowoperationtemperature,andlowpollutionemis-works,havebeensynthesizedbydifferentmethodssuchassion.1–3Theoxygenreductionreaction(ORR)isoneofthemost4,5templating,seeding,chemicalreduction,organic-solandthermalimportantreactionsinPEMFCs.Kinetics,thecatalyticdecompositionmethods,etc.17–23Amongthem,1DPtnano-activityanddurability
