IEEETRANSACTIONSONPOWERDELIVERY,VOL.24,NO.4,OCTOBER20092385InterfacingTechniquesforTransientStabilityandElectromagneticTransientProgramsIEEETaskForceonInterfacingTechniquesforSimulationToolsV.Jalili-Marandi,V.Dinavahi,K.Strunz,J.A.Martinez,andA.RamirezAbstract—Transientstability(TS)andelectromagnetictransientscaled-downrepresentationofthestudysystem.IntheTNA(EMT)programsarewidelyusedsimulationtoolsinpowersystems,linesweremodeledasseriesPI-circuitsmadeupofR,L,andwithdistinctapplicationsbutcompetingrequirements.TSpro-Celements[2].TheapplicationofTNAhasbeenrestrictedduegramsarefastwhichmakesthemsuitableforhandlinglarge-scalenetworks,however,themodelingisnotsufficientlydetailed.Ontoitshighcost,largedimensions,andmodelsimplificationis-theotherhand,EMTsimulatorsarehighlydetailed,butlimitedinsues.Theadventofdigitalcomputersofferedanalternateap-speed;consequently,theyareusedtosimulateonlysmallportionsproachforEMTanalysisthatovercamesomeoftherestrictionsofthenetwork.IntegratingthesetwotypesofsimulatorsgeneratesofTNA.EMT-typeprogramsallowlow-cost,flexible,andac-ahybridsimulatorwhichinheritsthemeritsofbothprograms.AcuratemodelingoftheEMTphenomenon;however,thesesim-hybridsimulatorcanfulfillthemodelingrequirementsofalargenetworkbyprovidingafastaswellasadetailedsimulation.Es-ulatorsarenotwithoutsomelimitationsrelatedtomodelingac-tablishingaconnectionbetweentwodifferentprogramsbringsupcuracyandprocessingtime[2],[4],[5].severalimportantissueswhichhavebeenaddressed,classified,andSeveralapplicationsinlarge-scalepowersystemssuchasexplainedinthispaper.AnalternativeintegratedmodelingofTSsimulationoftransientstatesofthenetworkincludingpowerandEMTisalsodiscussedusingtheconceptoffrequencyshifting.electronicapparatusesandcontroldevicesassociatedwithIndexTerms—Electromagnetictransientanalysis,hybridsimu-FACTSandHVDCrequireasimulatorasfastastheTSandlation,interfacing,powersystemtransientstability.asdetailedastheEMTsimulator.Manyattemptsweremadetowardsthatend,suchasusingpar
