均是精品,欢迎下载学习!!!EDUCATINGFORHUMANGREATNESSLynnStoddardTworoadsdivergedinawood,andI---Itooktheonelesstravelledby,Andthathasmadeallthedifference.RobertFrost’sfamouspoem,“TheRoadNotTaken,”isafittingmetaphorforwhatneedstohappenineducation.Wemaybeonthewrongroad.Alongtimeago,C.S.Lewiswrotethesepithywords:Weallwantprogress.Butprogressmeansgettingnearertotheplacewhereyouwanttobe.Ifyouareonthewrongroad,progressmeansdoinganabout-turnandwalkingbacktotherightroad.Thereisnothingprogressiveaboutbeingpig-headedandrefusingtoadmitamistake.Thereisanotherreformroadthatholdspromiseforimprovingoursystemofpubliceducation,butwemustfirstunderstandthesystemwehaveandwhyitspawnsartificialchanges.ThePopularRoad--CounterfeitReformOurculturebelievesstudentachievementincurriculumisthemaingoalandpurposeofeducation.Curriculumhasbecomeafalsegoal,anendinandofitself.Alltop-down,government-imposed“reforms”arebasedonthisbelief.Studentachievementincurriculumiswhatwetrytomeasure.Thiskeepsstudentslearningforthewrongreasons–topasstestsandgethighgrade-pointaverages.Theseextrinsicmotivatorsoftenresultinshallow,temporaryknowledge.Reading,writingandarithmeticareimportantskillstohave,butwhentheyaretaughtasendsinandofthemselves,theyareoftentaughtasisolatedskills,outofcontext,anddisconnectedfromlife.Manystudentsdevelopanaversiontolearningwhenachievementincurriculumisthemaingoal.JohnLocke,thegreatEnglishphilosophersaiditbest–“Thismuchforlearningtoread,whichlethimneverbedrivento.Cheathimintoitifyoucan,butmakeitnotabusinessforhim.‘Tisbetteritbeayearlaterbeforehecanreadthanthatheshouldthiswaygetanaversiontolearning.”TheUtahStateCoreCurriculum,theUPASSaccountabilitysystem,andthe“ReadingFirst”programoftheNoChildLeftBehindLaw,allmakecurriculuma“business”andcausemanystudentstodevelopan“aversiontolearning.”TheNoChildLeftBehindLaw,scheduledforreauthorizationnextyear,expectseveryoneto“staythecourse”onthewrongroad.“TheRoadLessTraveledBy”--GenuineReformAfterinterviewingthousandsofparentsoverseveralyears,theteacher
