从MonaBaker叙事理论看严复《天演论》译本的重构翻译的中期报告IntroductionMonaBakerNarrativeTheoryisanessentialtheorywhenitcomestounderstandingthetranslationprocess.Thetheoryprovidesdifferenttypesofnarrativesandtheirsignificanceincreatingmeaningintranslation.Thetheoryemphasizesonhownarrativestrategies,plot,andnarrativeperspectiveimpactthereader'sunderstandingofthetext.Thispaperpresentsamid-termreportofthereconstructiontranslationofYanFu's'TienYienLun'usingMonaBaker'sNarrativetheory.BackgroundThereconstructionofYanFu's'TienYienLun'aimstoimprovetheoriginaltranslatedtexttomeetthecurrentlinguisticstandards.YanFu'stranslation,whichwasdonein1895,wasthefirstattempttotranslateDarwin's'OriginofSpecies'intoChinese.ThoughYanFu'stranslationwassignificantandessential,ithadsomedeficiencies,suchasinadequatelinguisticexpressions,oversimplifications,anddistortionsofthescientificterms.Therefore,thisreconstructionaimstorefineandimprovetheinadequatelinguisticexpressionsandscientificterms.MethodologyThereconstructionfollowedtheTranslationAnalysisandRe-creationProcess(TARP)proposedbyKuo(2017).TheTARPmodelinvolvesthefollowingsteps:analysisofthesourcetext(ST)andtargettext(TT),translationandre-creationoftheTT,andevaluationofthere-createdTT.Inthisstudy,theTARPmodelwasadaptedtofitMonaBakerNarrativeTheoryapproach.NarrativestrategiesMonaBakerNarrativeTheoryarguesthatnarrativescreatemeaningintranslations.Theapproachcategorizesnarrativesintofourbroadstrategies:labelling,focalization,symbolism,andnarrativeframes.Thesestrategieshelpthereaderunderstandthetextandconveythemeaningappropriately.LabellingYanFu'stranslationhadsomedeficiencies,mainlyduetotheinadequatelinguisticexpressionsused.TheinitialanalysisoftheSTidentifiedYanFu'suseofinappropriatelanguagethatdidnotconveytheintendedmeaning.MonaBaker'stheorysuggeststhatlabellingisoneofthesignificantstrategiesincreatingmeaningintranslations.Theapproacharguesthatthedescriptionsinthenarrationwillbehelpfuliflabelledusingappropriatelanguage.Therefore,inthereconstruction,thein
