TheRoleoftheTeacherinForeignLanguageTeachingabstract:theteacherplaysasignificantandirreplaceablepartineducation.thispaperdemonstratesthemultiplerolesthatteachersplay,especiallylanguageteachersintheprocessofteaching.thegoodteacherneverworksasmeredelivererofinformation,buttakeontherolesasmentor,assessor,facilitator,participant,guideinculturalteachingandmorality,andlearneraswell.sinceeveryindividualstudentisanintegratedanddynamicbody,theteachershouldtakeintoconsiderationallkindsofthecognitive,affectiveaswellassocialfactorsthatinvolvelearning.teachersmustbeproficientintheircareertoenablethestudentstomakesomeacademicachievements.thentheyshouldfacilitatelearningbyencouragingandmotivatingstudentsandprovidingacomfortablelearningenvironment.languageteachersshouldalsopayattentiontofostertherightattitudeofstudentstowardsdifferentcultures.meanwhile,teachersarethemselveslearnersanditisnecessarytocontinuetopursueprofessionalandpersonalgrowthinteaching.keywords:teachers’role;mentor;promoter;guide;learnerintroductiontheimportanceofeducationinmodernsocietycanneverbeoverstated.sincethegoalofeducationistoleadpeoplefromthedarknessofignorancetothelightoftruth.teachers,astheguides,playamajorpartinthiscareer.teachingisanart,andteachersareartists.thekeytosuccessfulteachingdependsonhowwellteachersplaytheirrolesanddealwiththerelationshipwithstudents.inordertoexerttheproperkindofrelationshiponstudents,teachersshouldbequalifiedinmanyaspects.accordingtoallen,goodeslteachershavecompetentpreparationleadingtoadegreeintesl;aloveoftheenglishlanguage;thecriticalfaculty;thepersistenturgetoupgradeoneself;self-subordination;readinesstogotheextramile;culturaladaptability;professionalcitizenship;andafeelingofexcitementaboutone’swork(brown2001).withthedevelopmentofthenotionofeducationandlanguageteachingtheory,however,theroleofteacherstransferredfrom“astatic/institutionaltoaninnovative/democraticandglobalteacherrole”(ayse2006).thechangeofteacher-centeredtolearner-centeredapproachtolanguageteac
