ABriefIntroductiontoEnglish-Chinese【Abstract】WithChina’ssuccessfulentryintoWTO,someadultsarebeginningtoattachimportancetostudyingbusinessEnglishcontracts.ThepurposeofthispaperistoquestforEnglish-ChineseTranslationTechniquesofbusinesscontracts.【KeyWords】English-ChineseTranslationTechniques;BusinessContracts;PassiveVoice;AdverbialClausesWithChina’ssuccessfulentryintoWTO(theWorldTradeOrganization),businessEnglishismorewidelyused.AbusinessEnglishcontractisaformalwrittenagreement,whichsetsforthrightsandobligationsofthepartiesconcerned.Onceenteredinto,acontractisbindingandenforceablebylaw.Anypartywhofailstofulfillhisobligationsmustmakecompensationfortheotherparty’slosses.Abusinesscontractisanindispensablepartforpeopletocarryoutinternationalbusinessactivities.ItisnecessarytomentionafewEnglish-Chinesetranslationtechniquesofbusinesscontracts.Whentranslating,bothgrammaticalandrhetoricalconsiderationsareinvolved.SinceChineseandEnglishbelongtotwodifferentlanguagefamiliesandpresentalotofdifferencesintheirgrammar,lexicon,discoursestructure,etc.,oneoftheproblemswecannotavoidwhiletranslatingishowtomaketheversionsoundassmoothandnaturalaspossible.TranslatingsentencesofbusinessEnglishContractsintoChineseisfeasiblebutnotalwayseasy.Theyarecomprehensive,andoccasionallycomplex.Thefollowingtranslationtechniqueswillfocusonthepassivevoiceandtheadverbialclauses.1.TranslationTechniquesofPassiveVoiceVoiceisagrammaticalcategory.Itisaformoftheverb,whichshowswhetherthesubjectofasentenceactsorisactedon.Whenthesubjectistheagentordoerofanaction,theverbtakestheformofactivevoice;if,ontheotherhand,thesubjectistherecipientoftheaction,theverbtakestheformofpassivevoice.PassivevoiceiswidelyusedinEnglish,especiallyinformalinformativewriting,andscientificwritingandnewsreporting.InbusinessEnglishcontracts,passivevoiceisfrequentlyused,too.Mosttransitiveverbscanappearintheirpassiveforms.ThepassivevoiceofEnglishtransitiveverbsisformedbytheauxiliarybe+-edparticiple.Asentence/clausewhosepredicator(predicate
