中国英语学习者的英语高元音发音之个案研究的中期报告IntroductionThisreportisaninterimreportofacasestudyonthehighfrontvowelpronunciationofChineselearnersofEnglish.ThestudyaimstoinvestigatethefactorsthataffectthispronunciationfeatureandprovideinsightsforESLteachersonhowtohelpChineselearnersimprovetheirpronunciation.LiteratureReviewThehighfrontvowel/i/isoneofthemostfrequentlyusedvowelsoundsinEnglish.However,manyChineselearnersofEnglishstrugglewithitscorrectpronunciation.ResearchhasshownthatthereareseveralfactorsthathinderChineselearnersfromacquiringthispronunciationfeature.ThesefactorsincludethedifferencesinphoneticsystemsbetweenEnglishandChinese,theinfluenceofMandarinonEnglishpronunciation,andthelackofexposuretonaturalspokenEnglish.MethodologyThecasestudyinvolvestheanalysisofrecordingsoftwoChineselearnersofEnglish.TheparticipantswerebothadvancedlevelstudentswhohavebeenstudyingEnglishformorethansixyears.Theywereaskedtoreadalistofwordscontainingthehighfrontvowel/i/ininitial,medial,andfinalpositions.Theirrecordingsweretranscribedandanalyzedforpronunciationaccuracy,phoneticcontext,andotherfactorsthatmayaffecttheirpronunciation.ResultsPreliminaryanalysisoftherecordingsshowedthatbothparticipantsstruggledwiththecorrectpronunciationofthehighfrontvowel/i/inallpositions.Theyoftensubstituteditwithothervowelsoundssuchas/ɪ/and/eɪ/.TheanalysisalsoshowedthattheirpronunciationaccuracywasaffectedbythephoneticcontextofthevowelsoundandtheirMandarin-influencedpronunciationhabits.DiscussionTheresultsofthiscasestudysupportpreviousresearchthatsuggeststhatChineselearnersofEnglishfacechallengesinacquiringthehighfrontvowel/i/duetodifferencesinphoneticsystemsandtheinfluenceofMandarinonEnglishpronunciation.ESLteacherscanusethisstudytodevelopinstructionalstrategiesthattargetthesespecificchallengesandhelplearnersimprovetheirpronunciationaccuracy.ConclusionThisinterimreportprovidesasnapshotoftheongoingcasestudyonthehighfrontvowelpronunciationofChineselearnersofEnglish.TheresultsofthisstudywillhaveimplicationsforE
